Aggregate Data
CCRI provides users with a series of selected data drawn from published tables (1911 to 1951) at the census subdivision (CSD) or the census division (CD) level. The aim for this inclusion to the datasets is mainly to give the users some background statistical data to facilitate the assessment of the micro-data they use. Digitized tables are related to variables given at the CSD level consistently over (or nearly) the entire period from 1911 to 1951: total population; numbers of families, households or dwellings; population by sex, ethnic origin, and religion (to access the complete list, click here).
Each table was digitized using OCR, before being checked, validated, and eventually edited in order to provide the user with the best statistical reference available for the micro-data (see the section The Database - CCRI Geography – Digitized Published Tables for further information).
In addition, since the aggregate data is georeferenced (that is associated with the CSD and CD polygons they relate to), it can be used for the selection of the micro-data. For instance, a user wanting to work on places where a specific religion is widely spread may choose the micro-data at the CSD level where the proportion of the given religion, as calculated from published census returns, gathers over 50% of the population (or another threshold found appropriate by the user).
